What makes one want to start a business? In 1986 Richard Stelts dropped out of high school and, after setting around for sometime, had to go out and get a J O B. There was a small door and glass shop not too far from his home in Virginia Beach so as a matter of convenience Richard put in an application. He got the job; it was Richard, the owners Bill and his wife Mary Ann, a door installer Doug, and a Glazier named Woody. The company and Richard grew over the next six years. He earned his G.E.D. and started taking college courses and the company grew from 5 to 25 employees and two locations.
After a road trip to Colorado, Richard fell in love with the place. A month later he moved and was working on the biggest construction project in the country, Denver International Airport. After spending one winter working outside in Colorado Richard decided to go back to school and get a degree. Using his glazing experience he worked and went to college for the next five years. In 1996 Richard earned his Associates of Art Degree from Arapahoe Community College and in 1998 he graduated from The Colorado College with his Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Over the next few years Richard worked in as a General Manager, Account Executive, Retail Merchandiser, Salesman, Business Development Manager, Glazing Lead man, Shower Enclosure and Mirror Installation Manager and a few other variations of the above. These experiences gave him a desire to create a glass shop like no other. This leads to where we are today.
Someone once said that when we are doing what seem like unconnected events in our day to day life we don’t understand life or life just doesn't make since. However, once we find what we were meant to do and look back at all those random events the events become connected and life makes since. Superior Door and Glass Services arose out a desire to correct all the things that others do wrong and to prefect all the things that others do right. We are in the business to do things the right way, everything from the way we treat our customers to the way we take pride in our products and services. "God is in the details." Please join us in bringing a bit of perfection to the world.
